Please see IBM support case TS001525731 for the full story. Currently the users can create derived pages based on standard layout pages as well as based on static pages. However the concept of derived pages is not supported for static pages. Therefore the WebSphere Portal administration interfaces (GUI, scripting) must now allow the creation of a derived pages if the type of the parent page is incorrect. This is especially important as authors using the site manager can run into this problem as well (and these users usually are not aware of pages types etc.).
Based on the principle that every allowed input should result in a valid output this could be considered as a defect as well - however L3 & development requested a feature request for that.
How will this idea be used?
Portal site administrators should be able to create derived pages only if the parent page is of the correct type. Therefore unsupported portal site configurations are avoided.
